Heading into Your Second Year of IB Physics 😬

The final year of IB is full-on. You'll be expected to complete all your internal assessments, finish the course content in class, get your EE finished and tie up all the loose ends like CAS, Group4 project, etc.

I have three straightforward tips to help you cope with the workload that's about to come your way. These tips will help you overcome the overwhelm and stay on track during your final year of the IB program.

Tip #1: Use GradePod's Free Learning Objectives Checklist

One of the best ways to stay organised and ensure you're covering all the necessary material is by using my free learning objectives checklist. I've condensed the entire IB Physics syllabus into very simple, easy-to-follow objectives.

It's HUGELY popular and one of the most downloaded IB Physics resources online!

IB Physics Complete Checklist image for GradePod. The checklist covers all learning objectives for the IB Physics syllabus, organised by topic. The topics include mechanics, energy and power, waves, quantum physics, and more, with sections highlighted for HL (Higher Level) only content. The checklist includes checkboxes next to each item for tracking progress. The title emphasises that if a concept is on this checklist, it will be on the exam. The image is branded with the GradePod logo and is intended to be a tool for organised learning and exam preparation.

Here's how you can make the best use of it:

  1. Check Off What You've Learned: Spend a little time going through the checklist and mark off everything you've already covered in your first year (IBDP 1).

  2. Bring It to Class: Take this checklist with you to your lessons in IBDP 2 and continue checking off objectives as you learn them.

This method will give you a clear picture of what you need to focus on before the final exams.

You can download my free learning objectives checklist on GradePod. Trust me, this will be your go-to navigation tool in your final year of IB Physics and especially useful as you approach the final exams..

Tip #2: Practice Past Paper Questions by Topic

Did you see a drop in your grades in IBDP1 of IB Physics? this is normal.

A crucial part of acing IB Physics is developing excellent exam techniques and problem-solving skills. These cannot be acquired overnight; hence, you might see a sudden drop in grades initially.

If this happened to you, you should start working on past paper questions as soon as possible.

  1. Why Start Early?: The course is designed to take two years, which means you need to start honing those skills right away because they are essential for scoring high marks.
  2. Strategic Study Program: Inside TrIBe Physics, we accelerate your learning process. The course includes all the past papers, and I provide step-by-step instructions to improve your exam techniques and problem-solving skills rapidly.

Tip #3: Maximise Your Internal Assessment

Your scientific investigation or internal assessment (IA) is a great opportunity to boost your IB Physics grade. Here are a few tips to get those top marks:

Follow Instructions

Stick to the marking criteria. If you follow the steps correctly, it's quite straightforward to achieve high marks.

Choose a Simple Topic

A simple and easy-to-understand topic will make it easier to write a clear and concise report. GradePod has a list of 100 great topics to choose from.

Most of my students secure a '7' in their IA, which significantly boosts their confidence and overall grade before heading into the exams.

Bonus Tip: Use an Annotated IB Physics Formula Booklet

Start annotating your data booklet now. Make notes as you go along the course. This will be incredibly valuable during the exam.
